I watched the 2-hour pilot of Beverly Hills, 90210 due to its availability on Canadian Netflix. Why wasn’t I previously aware that West Beverly High is also Sunnydale High? With the archways and the stairs and such? Which has pop culture supremacy, 90210 or Buffy? In terms Nielsen ratings the answer would be the former, but is Buffy actually a more pervasive influence overall? Can someone write a thesis on this or something? A text that might appear in a fictional course at Greendale Community College, à la Who’s the Boss?
Further: Dylan McKay doesn’t appear until the second episode. And based on the first ten minutes of that episode alone, I’m guessing there are huge repositories of Dylan/Brandon fanfic out there, even if most of them are on looseleaf paper.
Speaking of Community, tonight was everything I didn’t know I wanted in an episode of that show. Fingers crossed that Annie moves in with Troy and Abed (or “Trobed”, since if any show will have a character coin a portmanteau, it’s this one). I say this not because I want to read the fanfic but because I think we’ve seen all there is to see where it comes to Troy and Abed domestic stories, and throwing Annie into the mix could make for some hijinks. Especially if she and Jeff are a thing.
And what am I even talking about, Parks and Recreation basically knocked out a perfect episode tonight, too. Swansons. Batman. Donna and Tom shopping spree. “Treat Yoself.” I can’t believe Ben still lives with April and Andy. Amazing.
