So there are groups that do this, they stay in highly policed areas on shifts and bring cameras and such, and record to make sure police brutality doesn’t escalate, and when it happens there’s evidence against it.
But that’s not the only way it can happen.
Every single person is entitled to watch an arrest go down as long as they are not obstructing or interfering. That means, if you see cops bumrush someone, even if that person is waving a gun, you are allowed, even legally permitted and encouraged to watch the events occur.
This is important white folks, because the cops work inyourservice. Oh sure, they’re supposedly in the service of “the common good” but we all know that means protecting white people.

And now a story, when I was in high school, and my mom was working under a horrific principal, she was late to work one day because there was something going on in our neighborhood. Cops were gathered near our pharmacy and a guy was on the roof (it’s a little over one story, so he wasn’t a jumper or anything) and she stayed as long as she could and watched the scenario go down for a while. Not because she’s trifling. not because she’s nosy. But because she saw a POC and cops gathered and said to herself “I want to make sure this goes by the book.”
And that’s all it takes to be a cop watcher.
You acknowledge that you, as a white person, are in a relative position of safety and you watch. You bear witness, because your voice, unfortunately, carries more weight than ours in the criminal justice system.
Justice is not blind, nor should you be.
If there are cops, and they outnumber an individual, shit, even if it’s 1:1, it is your responsibility to keep an eye on the scenario and take down whatever information you can. And if it looks like something shady is going on, you areobligatedto call in to your local precinct and say “Listen, I saw X happen on Y, and it looked questionable.” And if you get a negative response, well, y’know what? You find out if there’s a civilian oversight committee. In NYC we have one, but they’re underfunded and continually being legislated against (currently there’s a statute of 18 months from the time of the event within which you have to file charges).

An Indian couple have had their children taken away by Norwegian social workers because they were feeding them with their hands and sleeping in the same bed as them.
Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya lost custody of their three-year-old son and one-year-old daughter eight months ago after authorities branded their behaviour inappropriate.
The drastic measure led to intervention from the Indian government who contacted Norwegian authorities in an a desperate attempt to return the children.
Norwegian Child Protection Services removed the youngsters from their home in May, 2011, leaving their parents horrified with the outcome of the report.
Father Anurup told Indian television channel NDTV: ‘They told me ”why are you sleeping with the children in the same bed?’’.
‘(I told them) this is also a purely cultural issue. We never leave the children in another room and say goodnight to them.’
Anurup added: ‘Feeding a child with the hand is normal in Indian tradition and when the mother is feeding with a spoon there could be phases when she was overfeeding the child.
‘They said it was force feeding. These are basically cultural differences.’
Mrs Bhattacharya said: ‘My son was sleeping with my husband. They said he should sleep separately from your son.’
The parents have been told that they can only see their children twice a year, for an hour during each visit until the kids turn 18 when they will no longer be bound by the current restrictions under current Norwegian law.
Despite the Indian government’s intervention, Norwegian officials are refusing to meet the request for any further explanation.
The Norwegian government has taken these people’s children and now will not allow them to see each other, over simple xenophobia. Absolutely tragic.

I just want to add that this shit is NORMAL and happens in other Western countries. Brown & Black parents in the U.S. that want to give birth at home are forced to give birth in the hospital under threat of losing all their children. Co-sleeping is so frowned on that community health nurses are telling parents that it is “abuse” and requiring to see that parents have a crib set up. I am seeing so many examples of the government, medical establishment, & social workers getting into the middle of people’s choices for how they birth/raise their children that it is truly frightening. And the frequency with which this is turned upon dirt poor white people and POC - especially when we are talking about practices that are normal in our cultures - is downright common.
Am I the only one wondering how light these kids are & how cute? Because given the agency’s justification that the 4 month old doesn’t look at Mom so there’s a lack of emotional attachment, I’m thinking of all the “rescued brown child & gave to a nice white family” adoption stories.

The movie studios therefor relocated to California, and founded what we today call Hollywood. The reason was mostly because there was no patent. There was also no copyright to speak of, so the studios could copy old stories and make movies out of them - like Fantasia, one of Disneys biggest hits ever.
So, the whole basis of this industry, that today is screaming about losing control over immaterial rights, is that they circumvented immaterial rights. They copied (or put in their terminology: “stole”) other peoples creative works, without paying for it. They did it in order to make a huge profit. Today, they’re all successful and most of the studios are on the Fortune 500 list of the richest companies in the world. Congratulations - it’s all based on being able to re-use other peoples creative works. And today they hold the rights to what other people create. If you want to get something released, you have to abide to their rules. The ones they created after circumventing other peoples rules.
The reason they are always complaining about “pirates” today is simple. We’ve done what they did. We circumvented the rules they created and created our own. We crushed their monopoly by giving people something more efficient. We allow people to have direct communication between each other, circumventing the profitable middle man, that in some cases take over 107% of the profits (yes, you pay to work for them).
It’s all based on the fact that we’re competition. We’ve proven that their existence in their current form is no longer needed. We’re just better than they are.
And the funny part is that our rules are very similar to the founding ideas of the USA. We fight for freedom of speech. We see all people as equal. We believe that the public, not the elite, should rule the nation. We believe that laws should be created to serve the public, not the rich corporations.
The Pirate Bay is truly an international community. The team is spread all over the globe - but we’ve stayed out of the USA. We have Swedish roots and a swedish friend said this:

In the great Sid Meiers computer game Civilization you can build Wonders of the world. One of the most powerful ones is Hollywood. With that you control all culture and media in the world. Rupert Murdoch was happy with MySpace and had no problems with their own piracy until it failed. Now he’s complaining that Google is the biggest source of piracy in the world - because he’s jealous. He wants to retain his mind control over people and clearly you’d get a more honest view of things on Wikipedia and Google than on Fox News.

and yet, I cannot abide some things. the meaning of “literally” must not be allowed to become “figuratively.”
First, a nitpick. Nobody uses literally to mean figuratively. They aren’t throwing the word “literally” into the sentence “I was floored” so that you will understand they mean “not really, but the figurative connotation of floored.” They know you will understand that anyway.
No, they use literally figuratively as an intensifier, in the same sense that we use really or totally or definitely, and it works for all the same reasons those do.
Now I understand the thinking behind the embargo of literally used figuratively as a figurative bridge that literally cannot be crossed, but I can’t support it. Because words don’t work like that. They do not contain the properties of their meanings within themselves. By that I mean to say that the word fire is not hot to the touch. The word bright does not illuminate words around it or hurt to look at. Typing the word heavy on a page doesn’t increase its weight by more than the weight of its ink would do so.
And thus the word literally does not itself possess the property of literalness.
We can say “that really hurt” and it’s understood that we aren’t literally saying that what distinguishes this pain from other pain is that other pain was false. We can use seriously or truly or definitely or any other word that connotes truthfulness or precision and use it figuratively to mean an intensifier.
Literally just seems to be a logical continuation of that trend, and it has no downside because of the aforementioned wonderfully flexible ability of the human brain to parse different meanings for the same word.
Think of it this way: if someone says “I was literally floored.”, they want you to picture them doing a cartoon take of being knocked to the floor. That’s not what literally happened (notice how easily you parsed that I meant the literal definition of literal there), of course, but that’s the impression they wish to convey. Not that they were simply floored in the usual sense of the word, not just merely floored but really-quite-sincerely floored. The figurative use of literal is a concise way of conveying this.
